If you have iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later, you can use the Focus feature to help you concentrate and control notifications. Whether for work or sleep, you can create a Focus with a customized Home Screen that automatically turns on right when you need it.

How to schedule a Focus

You can customize each Focus and schedule them to automatically turn on and off throughout the day (or based on your location). To schedule a focus, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Focus.
  3. Tap the Focus you want to schedule.
  4. Click Add Schedule.
  5. Set your preferred schedule based on time, location, or apps.

You can also turn on Smart Activation under the Set a Schedule section. Select Smart Activation, then turn on the toggle. Your iPhone will automatically turn on your Focus at relevant times based on signals such as your location, app usage, and more.

How to set a Home Screen for a Focus

If you’d like your Home Screens to change based on where you are or what time it is, you can attach them to a specific Focus.

First, you’ll need to create a Home Screen by adding apps and widgets relevant to the Focus you want to customize. You can have multiple versions of one app spread out on different pages — for example, you can have your Camera app on both your Work Focus Home Screen and your Personal Focus Home Screen.

Add apps by:

  • Swiping down from the middle of the screen
  • Searching for your specific app
  • Holding down on it
  • Dragging it down to your Home Screen
  • Dragging and dropping them from your App Library

Once you’ve created a unique Home Screen, you can connect it with a Focus:

  1. Find your Settings app.
  2. Tap on Focus.
  3. Select the Focus you’d like to customize.
  4. Pick either your Lock Screen or Home Screen under the Customize Screens section.
  5. Choose which screen or screens you want to use for your Focus.
  6. Click Add in the top right corner.

If you’ve set a schedule or changed location settings for your Focus, your Home Screen will automatically change when your Focus activates.
