Whether you’re looking for ways to create or prevent app delays, read on to find your solution.

How to Delay Open Apps on iPhone

The Screen Time feature on iOS lets you control how you interact with apps. The Downtime section allows you to block apps and notifications when you need to focus or wind down for the day. To turn on Downtime:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Open Screen Time.
  3. Select Downtime.
  4. Choose Turn On Downtime Until Tomorrow or set a schedule.

During Downtime, you can only receive notifications and open apps that you specifically allow. If you try to open an app you haven’t previously allowed, the app will tell you that you’ve reached your time limit. This delay can help you avoid distractions.

You can also create delays for specific apps or categories through the Screen Time section of your settings:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap on Screen Time.
  3. Go to App Limits, then tap Add Limit.
  4. Select app categories or individual apps to limit.
  5. Set the amount of time you want to allow each day.
  6. Tap Add After Setting Limits.

Once you’ve reached your time limit, you can no longer access the app. Instead, a screen will appear telling you that you’ve reached your time limit. You can then select OK or Ignore Limit.

How to Fix App Delays

If you’re experiencing app delays not related to Screen Time that you’d like to fix, there are a few things you can try:

  • Quit the app: To close out of an app completely, swipe from the bottom of the screen to get an overlapping view of all your open apps. Find the app you want to close, then swipe up on the screen until it disappears.
  • Shut down your iPhone: Hold down the side power button and one of the volume buttons until the sliders appear. Drag the one that says Slide to Power Off to the right. Then, restart your phone using the power button.
  • Force restart: Quickly press and release the volume up button, then the volume down button. Press the power button until the screen goes black and the Apple logo appears.
