Apple provides many content and privacy restrictions you can enable on your phone (or your child’s device) to block websites, hide apps, or restrict screen time use.

How to block websites

To control the type of web content you or your child can access on a device, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Scroll to Screen Time.
  3. Tap Content and Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Toggle the switch to the right to turn on restrictions.
  5. Click on Content Restrictions.
  6. Locate the Web Content section.
  7. Select unrestricted, Limit Adult Websites, or Allowed Websites.

Choosing Limit Adult Websites or Allowed Websites will enable you to block any websites you want. Simply add the URLs you’d like to block to the list.

How to control app access and privacy on iOS

If you’d like to set restrictions on other aspects of a device, you can do so from the Content Restrictions section of the Content and Privacy Restrictions setting. Control access, privacy, and ratings for:

  • Music
  • Podcasts
  • TV shows
  • Apps
  • Movies
  • News
  • Siri searches
  • Game Center

To have greater control over built-in apps and features, click on the Allowed Apps section of the Content and Privacy Restrictions setting. You can toggle the button next to the apps you want to remove from the home screen. Apps will remain on the device, but they’ll be hidden from the home screen.

How to prevent accidental App Store purchases

Prevent your child from accidentally installing or deleting apps or making in-app purchases by following this process:

  1. Select Settings.
  2. Tap Screen Time.
  3. Click on Content and Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Choose iTunes and App store purchases.
  5. Decide which settings you prefer.

How to set a passcode

Protect your restrictions and settings by creating a passcode:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Screen Time.
  3. Scroll to Use Screen Time Passcode.
  4. Enter the passcode you want to use.
  5. Type in your Apple ID username and password.
  6. Tap OK in the bottom right corner.

When picking a passcode for your Screen Time password, select one that’s different from the one you use to unlock your device. If you forget your password, you can use your Apple ID and password to reset it.
