When you talk of protecting ‘valuable’ data, people tend to think you’re referring to your positions, investor data, perhaps algorithms … Sensitive data such as employee information needs as much protection says Bart McDonough of Agio.

Industry operators brush aside the significance of GDPR for HR data – “it’s not like we’ve got thousands of employees to manage,” said one – but Agio’s McDonough urges caution.

“I’ve heard this many times, this notion that ultimately EU regulators have bigger companies to worry about,” he says. “It’s not a surprise that GDPR has not been a catalyst for change – unfortunately, this industry sometimes doesn’t react until there is pain inflicted.”
